#OpenDemocracy #Corruption #ElectoralFraud #Racism: Let’s hold our #leaders to #account! #GE2019

In the final days before the UK election, all the main parties have serious questions to answer.

They concern corruption, foreign interference, fraud, racism, and the sale of voters’ personal information. And they involve people at the highest level of politics.

But so far they’ve all been able to avoid accountability – by delaying, obfuscation, or simply denying the facts.

Only our public watchdogs have the powers to compel politicians to give answers – and make the facts public before the election, not after.
That’s why we’ve launched this urgent campaign, will you join our call?

Release the evidence

At openDemocracy we’ve been working tirelessly to bring transparency to our politics, and to uncover the truth behind the spin.

We have laws in this country which entitle us to know whether toys pose a risk to children. Whether food products contain allergens that could kill us.
Why should our politics be any different?

Whatever your party, and whether you voted Brexit or Remain – these questions go to the heart of our democracy. We must take urgent action.

Between them, our taxpayer-funded watchdogs have investigated allegations of corruption, foreign interference, electoral fraud, racism, and the sale of voters’ personal information. They involve people at the highest level of politics, and overshadow all of the three main parties.

Yet none of their findings will be made public until after the election on 12 December.

We have laws in this country which entitle us to know whether toys pose a risk to children. Whether food products contain allergens that could kill us. Why should our politics be any different?

Today, we’re urgently calling on the Prime Minister; the Information Commissioner; and the heads of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Independent Office for Police Conduct to release all the information they hold on these matters before 12 December.

These people been tasked with upholding our laws and protecting the public. There can be no justification for denying voters access to vital evidence during this election.

Why are we doing this?

  • Boris Johnson stands accused of criminal misconduct; of suppressing a report into Russian interference; and of leading a campaign which broke electoral law. His party stands accused of attempted bribery.
  • Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour party stand accused of unlawfully discriminating, harassing or victimising people because they were Jewish.
  • Jo Swinsons’ Liberal Democrats stand accused of lies and forgery, in an attempt to discredit public-interest journalism.

Yes, I’ll sign the petition
