Noam Chomsky: Obama Is ‘Running Biggest Terrorist Operation That Exists’Andrew Kirell,

Continuing his streak of fiercely criticizing President Obama’s foreign policy and civil liberties record, pre-eminent left-wing scholarNoam Chomsky told GRITtv that this administration is “dedicated to increasing terrorism” throughout the world via its own “terrorist” drone strikes in foreign lands.

Speaking with GRITtv host Laura Flanders about the National Security Agency snooping scandal, Chomsky remarked that “the Obama administration is dedicated to increasing terrorism; it’s doing it all over the world.”

He continued: “Obama is running the biggest terrorist operation that exists, maybe in history: the drone assassination campaigns, which are just part of it […] All of these operations, they are terror operations.” Drone strikes are “terror” because, Chomsky said, the attacks have the effect of “terrorizing” locals.”

“You are generating more terrorist operations,” Chomsky pointedly said. “People have a reaction” when they lose a loved one to an American drone strike, he added. “They don’t say, ‘Fine, I don’t care if my cousin was murdered.’ They become what we call terrorists. This is completely understood from the highest level.”

He recalled the recent congressional testimony of a Yemeni man named Farea al-Muslimi, who described how a single drone strike managed to “radicalize” his entire village against the United States.

“People hate the country that’s just terrorizing them,” Chomsky concluded. That’s not a surprise. Just consider the way we react to acts of terror. That’s the way other people react to acts of terror.”

  1. The problem with Professor Chomsky is that he makes too much sense. Most Americans have deluded themselves into believing that our military acts are always to secure freedom, democracy, and the American Way, when most of them, in fact, have either been to safeguard access to raw resources we don’t have or have too little of (oil, copper, rubber, oil, and more oil) or to defeat Communism. For all the criticism of Germany as the nation that was drawn most often into warfare during the 20th Century, America was 20th Century’s main warmonger nation and certainly a supporter of more dictators (to defeat Communism) than any other country on earth (I once counted about 40 anti-Communist dictators in Latin America during the last 60 years that received support from Washington). Our marines invaded a tiny nation in the Caribbean (Grenada) without provocation, We loved Saddam in the 1980s, when he was fighting Israel’s most dangerous enemy, Iran; in fact, we gave him CIA money when he was gassing the Kurdish population in Iraq (recall Rumsfeld’s robust handshake with Saddam). We invaded Iraq not to liberate people from the yolk of Saddam as a totalitarian oppressor or because Iraq had nuclear arms, but instead to create a second client state in the Middle East to further protect our corporate investments in their oil fields. Along with British Intelligence, the CIA orchestrated a military coup d’etat to oust the democratically elected, secular President of Iraq (Mohammed Mossadegh)in 1953 because he had the brazen temerity to propose nationalizing the oil fields operated by British Petroleum, the same company that isn’t paying out the $20 Billion it promised to pay to residents and business harmed by its massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Americans perpetuate myths and fictions to conceal our international duplicity. Israel demands that Iran cease all nuclear activities for fear that it will one day be able to produce a nuclear warhead even though Israel itself refused to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and then developed a nuclear arsenal of 200-300 nuclear missiles at a nuclear facility in the Negev desert that is never subject to international inspections or sanctions, all with the approval of our government. What Americans actually support is Israel’s right to be the only nuclear-armed state in the Middle East, and we have for decades, to be the dominant military power in the region even though it has such a small population, to assert its hegemony of the region, as Professor Chomsky might say.

Americans are chumps for official and corporate propaganda, a rare combination of ignorance and arrogance unmatched anywhere else. Such rank stupidity is the only basis for proclaiming us “exceptional.”
